BUDGET 2025: Energy Bills To Fall £150 From April 2026

Energy costs will be reduced by the end of the Energy Company Obligation, Chancellor Rachel Reeves announced today as part of the Autumn Budget announcement.

This is currently funded through bills and government spending.

The cut is expected to save all households around £150 on their energy bills from April 2026.

Our view

While this measure helps homes save on energy bills in the short term, more needs to be done to ensure that households can afford to heat and power their homes.

Millions of households are still in fuel poverty. There needs to be effective support systems in place to ensure that vulnerable customers and those worried about their bills are able to find a reasonable way to pay.

Customers who are concerned about their energy bills should contact their supplier as soon as possible to arrange an affordable payment plan. Those on a prepayment meter can request emergency credit if they’re unable to top up.

If you’re already struggling with your bills and have fallen into debt, contacting organisations such as StepChange or Citizens Advice can help you access free advice.
